We host the content of our website with the following provider:
Strato
The provider is Strato AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin (hereinafter referred to as “Strato”). This website runs on a virtual server (VPS) rented from Strato. We administer the server ourselves; the access logs described in section 4 are created on this server. Strato provides the infrastructure (data centre and network) and may process connection data as part of operating its network.

The use of Strato is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in the most reliable and secure presentation of our website.
Data Processing Agreement
We have concluded a data processing agreement (DPA) for the use of the above-mentioned service. This is a contract required by data protection law which ensures that Strato processes the personal data of our website visitors only in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.

Legal Basis for Data Processing on This Website
The server log files, the anonymous visitor statistics and the protection against attacks (section 4) are based on our legitimate interest in the secure and error-free operation of this website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you contact us by email or phone, we process your message in order to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Where we are legally obliged to keep or disclose data, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR. Information is only stored on or read from your device where this is strictly necessary for a function you have requested (§ 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). We do not process personal data on the basis of consent.
Recipients of Personal Data
Personal data is only passed on to the hosting provider named in section 2, which processes it on our behalf under a data processing agreement, or where we are legally obliged to do so (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). We do not sell personal data or pass it on for advertising purposes.
Right to Object to Data Collection in Special Cases (Art. 21 GDPR)

- If the processing of your personal data was/is unlawful, you may request restriction of data processing instead of erasure.
- If we no longer need your personal data but you need it for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, you have the right to request restriction of processing instead of erasure.
- If you have lodged an objection pursuant to Art. 21(1) GDPR, a balance must be struck between your interests and ours. As long as it has not yet been determined whose interests prevail, you have the right to request restriction of processing.
Where processing has been restricted, such data may – apart from being stored – only be processed with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, or for the protection of the rights of another person, or for reasons of important public interest of the EU or a Member State.
SSL/TLS Encryption
For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the “https://” in the address bar and the padlock symbol in your browser.
When SSL/TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
4. Data Collection on This Website
Server Log Files
Each time you access a page, the web server of this website automatically records information that your browser transmits: IP address, date and time of the request, requested URL, HTTP status code and amount of data transferred, referrer URL (the page you came from) and user agent (browser and operating system). These log files are created on our own server and are not merged with other data sources.
We need this data to deliver the website, to find errors and to defend against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in the technically error-free and secure operation of the website. The log files are rotated automatically by size and are usually overwritten after a few days, at the latest after a few weeks.
Anonymous Visitor Statistics
Once a day, a script on our server counts from these log files how many visitors and page views the website had on the previous day and from which countries they came. The country is determined locally on our server using the “IP to Country Lite” database by DB-IP (CC BY 4.0); no data is sent to DB-IP or any other third party. Only the daily totals are stored – no IP addresses, no user profiles, no cookies and no tracking across websites. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our interest in understanding the reach of this blog in a privacy-friendly way).
Protection Against Attacks
To protect the server against automated attacks such as password guessing or vulnerability scanners, IP addresses that send suspicious requests are blocked temporarily. The IP address and the time of the block are stored on our server only for the duration of the block – usually one hour or 24 hours, for repeat offenders up to 30 days – and are then deleted automatically. Failed logins on the WordPress login page are recorded locally with IP address and time to limit further attempts (plugin “Limit Login Attempts Reloaded” in local mode, without any transfer to the plugin provider); a lockout ends after 20 minutes and the attempt counter is reset after 24 hours. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (security of the website).
Cookies
This website does not use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies. WordPress only sets technically necessary cookies when someone logs in to the administration area. The table of contents in some posts may remember in your browser whether you collapsed it; this information stays on your device. Such storage is strictly necessary for a function you requested (§ 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG) and does not require consent.
Embedded Content and External Links
This website does not embed content from third-party servers – no external fonts, videos, maps or social media plugins. Fonts, scripts and images are delivered from our own server. Posts contain links to external websites; only when you click such a link does your browser connect to that website, and its operator is then responsible for the processing of your data.
