How it all started: That watercolor portrait is roughly 20 years old – back when my daily driver was a Dell Inspiron 8600C: a chunky silver slab that doubled as a space heater and could probably survive a drop from orbit. It shipped with Windows, obviously. It ran Windows for about a week. Then I spent the next several months fighting unsupported Wi-Fi chipsets, hand-patched kernel modules, and ACPI that treated “suspend” as a personal insult – all just to get Linux booting on hardware that had never heard of it. It rarely worked cleanly. I kept doing it anyway. That laptop is basically where this entire blog started, twenty years before it existed. 🐧💻
